Housing Fair in Vaasa 2008
The 2008 Housing Fair was held in the Suvilahti area of Vaasa 11.7.-10.8.2008. The central theme of the fair was socially and ecologically sustainable housing, in a maritime environment, in proximity to the centre of a city.
The Suvilahti area is situated approximately, three kilometres from the centre of Vaasa. The vast majority of the area was planned in the 1960´s. The Suvilahti district was completed in the 1970´s with the exception of the maritime zone bordering the sea.
The Housing Fair was be built on the undeveloped maritime zone as part of the suburbs renewal project. The overall aim was to build an area of harmonious dimensions that has a vast diversity of building designs that can be seamlessly incorporated into Suvilahti´s current surroundings.
The choice of Suvilahti as a Housing Fair area supports Vaasa´s housing and development strategy, in which the goal is to increase the town’s population to 65,000 inhabitants by the year 2015.
